Coop Italia was the first Italian and European company to be granted SA8000 (Social Accountability) certification, which guarantees compliance with an ethical standard for the development and production of PL products. All PL suppliers have joined this ethical project; they were also asked to involve their sub-suppliers of raw materials in the initiative.
Coop Italia is the owner, together with the Scandinavian Coops and Coop Eroski, of Intercoop Far East, based in Hong Kong, and it has developed business with China for over 25 years, for the import of non food products. The import value in 2008 is equal to over 75 Mln Euros.
